Charity Sport Relief has now been named the official charity partner for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The announcement paves the way for the creation of a whole host of activities to engage the British public with raising money for good causes.
The hope is that the added publicity will help funnel investment into tackling some of the more important issues in the UK. Sport Relief has supported millions of lives and raised over £419 million for the public.
The announcement marks a significant change to the Sport Relief brand. This year, they become a charity with a year-round stream of activities, including supporting major events instead of their usual bi-annual fundraisers.
CEO of Comic Relief, Samir Patel said:
“It’s a huge honour to be teaming up with the UK’s most exciting international sporting event this year, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. We have so many exciting things in store for all Sport Relief supporters to get involved in and enjoy! 2022 marks 20 fantastic years of Sport Relief and the start of our exciting journey to develop and expand this brilliant campaign which taps into the power of sport and the role it plays in our popular culture.”
