The Sport and Recreation Alliance represented the UK at an EU-funded project, “Skills acquired through volunteering in sport”. The Alliance travelled to Tallinn, Estonia, to review the first draft of a key piece of research entitled “A Comprehensive Mapping of the sport volunteering workforce in Europe.”
Representatives from the European Observatoire of Sport and Employment (EOSE) updated partners on the progress of the survey on sports organisations in volunteering. The survey closed in mid-July 2022, and received 2,723 responses, with more than 80% from the EU and just over 2% coming from the UK.
The survey recounted size, characteristics, realities and challenges for those in sports volunteering. The research however concluded that millions of European citizens, whether participants or volunteers gain personal, professional, and social benefits from volunteering in their own time.
