The annual ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal holds a worldwide survey that predicts trends based on insight from 4,500 fitness professionals. According to their 2022 survey, wearable technology, outdoor exercise activities, and strength training are among those expected to shape the worldwide fitness industry in 2022.

In the top 20 trends, they have highlighted numbers 12 and 13 as evidence of a shift in health and wellness. At number 12, support for social prescribing for the health sector with ‘Exercise is Medicine’ and at number 13, ‘Employing fitness professionals’. With the effects of the pandemic still weighing on these trends, individual and outdoor exercise all rank highly in the top 10.

The latest statistics released by ukactive show fitness operators have the safest environments for the contraction of the virus. As people begin to transition into lives with COVID-19, group exercise, fitness, and coaching from professionals are again on the rise. Online training had previously taken the number 1 spot, but the survey confirms a preference for shared environments for consumers.
