A coalition of over 200 organisations, athletes, businesses, and charities across health, sport, recreation, and physical activity sectors have written an open letter to UK party leaders, urging them to commit to making the UK the most active nation in Europe. This initiative, called #TakeTheLead, aims to highlight the importance of creating a more active nation and the need for political leadership to drive change.
The campaign is driven by several key organisations, including the Active Partnerships network, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, and the Sport and Recreation Alliance, among others. Notable figures such as Rebecca Adlington OBE and Ugo Monye have also lent their support to the cause.
Currently, the UK ranks joint-11th among 15 comparable European nations in terms of physical activity levels, despite 75% of British adults believing the UK would be in the top 10. The letter emphasises the urgent need and unique opportunity for the new government to unlock the full potential of the sport, recreation, and physical activity sectors.
CIMSPA has released “Agenda for Action,” which outlines how the sport and physical activity workforce can contribute to the next government’s goals for health, wellbeing, and economic growth. This includes the formal integration of the sport and physical activity sector into the health sector and for the sake of economic growth.
