Youth Sport Trust has put its support behind sentiments in Parliament, where MPs showed their support for making PE a core subject. The organisation also called for the need for confirmed funding for school sport for the academic year 2023/24.
With more than 36,000 hours of the PE curriculum lost since London 2012, the charity has called on the ambitions of the current School Sport and Activity Plan to be joined up with long-term targets for PE and school sport leadership.
They have focussed on three key areas:
- Committing children and young people to daily physical activity recommendations
- The elevation of PE as a core subject alongside English and Maths
- The introduction of an active wrap-around care programme
MPs who took part in the debate offered their support for Youth Sport Trust’s aims, including MP Seema Malhotra, MP Robin Walker & Former Sports Minister Tracey Crouch.
