The Football Foundation has welcomed Chancellor Sunak’s budget, as the Government have announced that they will be investing a further £205million of funding for community sports facilities across England. A part of their new ‘Levelling Up Agenda’, the plan will help disadvantaged people across the country benefit from improved sports facilities.
The Premier League and The FA have welcomed the investment providing better facilities over the next three years, as the country builds back up to pre-Covid levels. With successive restrictions having reduced fitness levels, as well as issues with impoverishment and wellbeing, it’s of the utmost importance to keep the British populace moving.
The Football Foundation will use the investment to target communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas in the country. These areas reflect regions that have been prioritised in the Government agenda. They will offer 70% of the funding to those areas categorised in 1 or 2 to go towards better facilities.
CEO of the Football Foundation, Robert Sullivan, said:
“With the government, Premier League and The FA’s investment, we have made plenty of progress in the last two decades, but there is still lots of work to do to ensure all communities across England get the standard of local sports facilities they need and deserve. This new funding will unlock the power of even more pitches to help transform people’s lives.”
