Gamified VR fitness scheme launches to improve employee health

A US-based digital health platform has launched a corporate scheme to improve physical activity levels for employees. Sharecare has introduced the Get Active scheme after running an 8-week pilot. The pilot took employees of the property development firm Lennar Corporation and gave them VR fitness games.

The pilot split employees into two groups, a set of 60 in a high-risk category and a separate 190 participants. The first group were those who considered themselves sedentary, doing less than 60 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week. The second group included all other participants who opted to take part in the pilot.

This is the latest in advancements showing the significance of gamification in physical activity. The pilot showed sustained improvement for employees and will now be rolled out to all its commercial clients.

Whilst the numbers are still being studied by clinicians, the preliminary results are good. There was an 82% engagement rate with one group, resulting in around 2.5 times the engagement compared with the post-pilot results.

Get Active is now available to their Sharecare+ members and includes lifestyle coaching, direct communication with health advisors, and a personalised health profile.
