This year, people across the country got together to emphasise the importance of sport and physical activity on National Fitness Day. On the 21st of September, nearly 23 million people across the UK got active at their local gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools, schools and clubs.

Televised through a joint co-production between ukactive and ITN Productions, the event was hosted by Louise Minchin from ITV studios. It kicked off with award-winning PT and best-selling author Laura ‘Biceps’ Hoggins joining a special workout with Les Mills Master Trainers Jess McDonald and Sarah Durnford at Jubliee Hall Gym in Covent Garden.

The team spoke about their experiences and the benefits of being active to tie together the theme of this year’s event, ‘Fitness Unites Us’. Children also joined the roster in schools where they hosted a synchronised 10@10. Those participating joined in for 10 minutes of fun physical activity at 10 am!

The event, first organised by énergie Fitness Founder Jan Spaticchia, was a great success with many participating on social media under the hashtag #FitnessDay. CEO of ukactive, Huw Edwards added:

“We hope that by uniting through fitness today, more people can experience the benefits of physical activity and in particular the mental strength and resilience it can bring to our lives.”
