Pride Month saw the Sport & Recreation Alliance highlighting a London-based LGBTQ+ squash club. OutPlay Squash is an inclusive squash club, playing at various venues across the capital up to four times a month.
Players of all ages and backgrounds can join the club, as they mandate no experience levels. Joanna Rowbottom, Head of Partnerships and Communities at England Squash, commented:
“As part of our work to ensure the make-up of the squash community better reflects the society in which we live, we’re working alongside LGBTQ+ squash clubs and players to increase our understanding and ensure squash is accessible for all LGBTQ+ people.
“By highlighting personal stories and best practice, we will drive awareness and inspire more squash clubs to create welcoming and safer experiences for LGBTQ+ players that allows them to feel their authentic selves.
“While Pride Month and LGBT+ History Month are important campaigns for us to celebrate, it’s a chance for us to listen and learn from the LGBTQ+ community on how we can continue to improve the accessibility of the sport.”
