The Sport and Recreation Alliance team attended the three major political conferences this year with the aim of encouraging the inclusion of the sector in the economic renewal of Britain.
Lisa Wainwright, CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, was particularly looking for party leaders who would be willing to work with the sector to unlock those barriers to physical activity.
This follows on from the bid to make the UK the most active country in Europe. Much of the insights of the sector stressed the importance of supporting public health, empowering communities and driving economic growth through the sector.
Their insights covered the following:
- Prevention is a priority, and as plans develop, physical activity should be a key tool
- Giving communities control in housing, transport and skills where the sector can offer apprenticeships, active travel and healthier communities
- Rebuilding the economy, including income boosts and savings allotted through a physically active population.
