A new campaign, Play Their Way, has been developed by the Children’s Coaching Collaborative. Their campaign was launched in a special event at Peckham BMX Club, a venue already using this unique approach.
The aim of the campaign is to keep positive, fun experiences at the heart of coaching. They will be championing children’s voices, the choices they make, and their journeys in sport and physical activity.
Sport England has welcomed the approach with Chief Executive, Tim Hollingsworth, agreeing that this was the heart of their plan, Uniting the Movement.
The latest Active Lives Children and Young People survey confirmed the connection between enjoyment and regular exercise. 57% strongly agree that 47% of regularly active young people enjoy taking part in sports and physical activity.
Heather Douglas, Head of Coaching and Policy at UK Coaching, agreed on the importance of coaching in their enjoyment. She added:
“Coaches play such an important role in the development of children and young people’s lives, often in difficult circumstances, and can have a profound effect on the positive experiences they have in sport and physical activity.”
