A new report supported jointly by Sport for Development Coalition and Mind has called for a new cross-government strategy that will strengthen the use of physical activity and sport in mental health and wellbeing care.
The report named Moving for Mental Health has offered clear evidence that physical activity and involvement in linked programmatic interventions and social networks are beneficial for mental health.
With the impacts of COVID-19 still a constant factor, the report hopes to tackle social isolation and encourage new training for health professionals in prescribing physical activity to address mental health issues.
Led by the Office for Health improvement and Disparities, the report recommends further embedding physical activity and community sport in health policy and integrated care systems. They have called on diverse communities to lead in the design, implementation, and evaluation of future strategy and programming.
