Community organisations in England affected by recent winter storms, including Storms Bert, Conall, and Darragh, can apply for financial assistance through Sport England’s Movement Fund. This fund aims to provide emergency relief and support recovery efforts for facilities damaged by extreme weather, such as flooding.
Sport England’s chief executive, Tim Hollingsworth, emphasised the broader impact of severe weather beyond physical damage, noting that it also disrupts opportunities for health, community engagement, and social connections. The Movement Fund is designed to help organisations restore these opportunities for sports and physical activities in the hardest-hit areas.
Whilst funding priority will be given to activities facilities that require immediate recovery in advance of commitments to government-led programmes like HAF, taking advantage of this funding to support year-round facility management is paramount.
