StreetGames, as part of the Play Their Way campaign, is recognising the role of coaches delivering socially prescribed activities to support the mental, physical, and emotional health of young people. This comes as the sector has highlighted the concerning increase in poor mental health amongst young people.

StreetGames is part of the 17-strong Children’s Coaching Collaborative, a collective of organisations that want to create a nation of “child-first coaches.” The approach focuses on championing every child’s voice, choice, and journey in sport and physical activity, ensuring positive experiences for all young people through the people who know them best – their coaches.

The “youth social prescribing” approach, pioneered by StreetGames through the Social Prescribing Youth Network, now supports many children and young people. These individuals will have been referred to mental health services and will likely face long waiting lists and consequently the deterioration in their mental health.

StreetGames founded the Youth Social Prescribing Network with the aim of delivering this approach for children and young people across every Primary Care Network in England. The organisation is proud to support this work, which has the potential to help reduce hospital admissions and pressure on the NHS.
