The Sport for Development Coalition partnered with The Commonwealth Secretariat to host the 8th annual Commonwealth Debate on Sport and Sustainable Development on the 26th of March. The debate focused on the motion: “Artificial Intelligence is the answer to accelerating the power of sport to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030″.
The debate examined opportunities and threats of AI in the sports industry and how AI-led solutions can impact social development in areas like health, education, and youth engagement. In addition to the debate, the Coalition is also offering a free online course on the origins, types, and applications of AI, with a focus on the potential of AI in women’s sport.
The Coalition also contributed to a panel at the “Get Active: The Sport Strategy Conference” on the 27th of March, where key stakeholders highlighted their role in tackling inequalities and achieving better social, health, and economic outcomes through sport and physical activity.
These events are part of the Coalition’s efforts to collectively mark the UN’s International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on the 6th of April and demonstrate how the sector is contributing to key outcomes highlighted by the #OpenGoal framework.
