The US is the world’s largest wellness economy, with a valuation of US$1.8 trillion, according to a recent report by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI). This makes the US market double the size of China’s, worth US$790 billion.
The US leads in 9 out of the 11 wellness sectors measured by the GWI within the global US$5.6 trillion wellness economy. The largest US wellness sectors are:
- Physical Activity: US$338.6 billion (+22.9% growth from 2020-2022)
- Personal Care & Beauty: US$310 billion (+13.4%)
- Healthy Eating, Nutrition & Weight Loss: US$289 billion (+8.4%)
- Wellness Tourism: US$259 billion (+31.8%)
The Spa category accounts for US$25.9 billion of the US wellness market. The report is now available on GWI’s Geography of Wellness platform following a partnership with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
