The “This Girl Can” campaign has launched a new initiative called This Girl Can With You, aimed at encouraging more women and girls to engage in sports and physical activities. This phase of the campaign seeks to address the barriers that contribute to women’s lower participation rates compared to men.
Research highlights a significant enjoyment gap, revealing that 2.4 million fewer women than men find sports and exercise enjoyable and satisfying. The campaign calls on the sector to take action to create a more inclusive environment for female participation in physical activities.
The This Girl Can website includes tools, tips and ideas for organisations that would like to build on this insight and engage more girls and women. Sport England has praised the grassroots organisations already delivering to close the gap but has highlighted the significant barriers, including safety and the cost-of-living crisis fuelling the disparity.
Nicola Adams, the first female boxer to become a double Olympic gold medallist, is supporting the campaign.
