ukactive is now shedding some much-needed light on social prescribing for NHS England. Having announced the partnership with NHS England at the ukactive national summit, ukactive pledged over 500,000 hours of physical activity provision to NHS England staff.
Social prescribing aims to move away from the model of one-size-fits-all health care systems to linking different sectors, including health and fitness, together. With the increasing pressure on the NHS as Freedom Day finds that thousands more have contracted the virus, it seems time for an alternative to traditional methods of recovery.
However, the industry is not fully aware of what already exists within the fitness and leisure sector. So whilst social prescribing exists, it is unknown what the full extent would be. ukactive had launched a consultation, supported by Matrix Fitness UK, to explore the sector’s existing links.
