ukactive has invited MPs, Peers and their teams in Westminster to be part of a new initiative to promote physical activity in parliament. The aim is to impress the importance of physical, mental and social wellbeing in Westminster and by extension, the nation.
Running from the 19th of October to the 16th of November, the Parliamentary Physical Activity Challenge has been organised by ukactive and supported by the global fitness tracking provider Myzone. The challenge is designed to boost productivity, with MZ-Switch heart rates given to participants to track their effort and activity levels.
The challenge is aimed at not only raising awareness about physical activity amongst parliamentarians and decrease sedentary lifestyle habits. In the UK, there are still significant inequalities in physical activity levels, with almost a third of people classed as inactive.
The heart rate monitors will measure their activity levels throughout the month, using a points system that focuses on volume or distance – making it proportionate and inclusive for all.
