Huw Edwards has made another entreaty to Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer as to the relevance of the sector for economic growth. As current and future possible prime ministers, he is once again asking that they work with the activities sector to ‘spark sustained economic growth’.

In a blog written personally by the CEO of ukactive, he discusses the “pandemic of poor health” for the working-age population. He warns of the increased pressure put on the NHS by the impact of obesity-related illness.

He draws on the importance, especially with the growing prevalence of obesity among 18-24-year-olds, that the government can drive economic development by working with the sector as a serious partner rather than one that was ‘nice to have’.
