Work to commence opening school facilities began long before the successful award of £57 million to a consortium of physical activity bodies and organisations. Organisations including Active Partnerships, StreetGames, ukactive and the Youth Sport Trust are helping schools across the country open their sports facilities outside of the school day.
The project’s focus as work continues is to use this consortium to focus on areas of high inequality, targeting areas particularly for women and girls, the disadvantaged, culturally diverse communities and those with special educational needs, disabilities and long-term health conditions.
ukactive Research Institute is ensuring that the collaboration with this consortium will target those hard-to-reach communities. The aim is that organisations like StreetGames and the Youth Sport Trust will keep the focus on empowering young people.
