As part of their PESSPA webinar series, afPE recently held the ‘Promoting Sun Safety Awareness to Children and Young People’ webinar with the CEO of the Melanoma Fund, Michelle Baker. The Association for Physical Education supports the PE and physical activity sector by holding regular webinars that delve into diverse topic areas.
On the 16th of June, afPE held the sun safety awareness webinar, which covered practical support for protecting children and young people doing outdoor activities. The webinar is especially useful with the warmer weather yielding a return to outdoor activities such as sports days in schools.
The topics discussed were:
- Why sun protection is so important in Physical Education, School Sport, & Physical Activity
- Practical tips for staff working with children outdoors from Early Years to university level
- The importance of leading by example and much more.
All webinars are available to afPE members, with some also available to the public. For those that missed the webinar, the Melanoma Fund has developed ‘Outdoor Kids sun safety code‘ resource for guidance. The educational resource is free to those who work outdoors with primary school-aged children.
